‘Proving. Grounds.’ WNC’s #1 Photographer, Micah Mackenzie, Collaborates With His Muses For Photography Show at Pisgah Brewery!

Micah Mackenzie is collaborating with his Asheville fashion muses, Ship To Shore’s R. Brooke Priddy and Royal Peasantry’s Danielle Miller, for his upcoming solo show which opens with a reception a 6:00pm on May 31st at Pisgah Brewing Company.  In addition to covering many local events and festivals, Micah is well-known for his stunning portraiture, fashion, and street photography; constantly pushing himself to develop new techniques that blur the boundaries of fashion and art. This show titled ‘Proving. Grounds.’ will be no exception to this.

‘Proving. Grounds.’ is Micah’s first show in over a year and it promises to attract a who’s who of the Asheville art, performance, and fashion scenes. Local rock band, Grammer School, will provide entertainment beginning at 8:30pm, there will be food vendors, of-course plenty of fine Pisgah brews on tap.  ”I had a dream to see Asheville as the new Paris.  With this collaboration, we are on our way!  To bring Brooke and Danielle together for the sole purpose of creation is truly inspring to me.  I am highly honored to be working with these muses of mine… they will have a clue of how much I appreciate their energy and creativity when we show these works on May 31st,” says Micah.

R. Brooke Priddy says “Micah has brought us together to build a look in homage to Alphonse Mucha, a divine muse.  For this, I have selected a sweeping and sheer one-shouldered olive modal gown with an emphasis on draping and rawness.”

“As an artist I am excited to experience this mysterious creative advancement.  It’s like a blind date; though i collaborate with my design team in our shop everyday,  joining forces with the unlike mind of a different creative system which is quite exciting and renovating.  No doubt an energetic masterpiece is in the works,” says Danielle Miller.

The exhibition runs during taproom hours through August 5, 2012 at Pisgah Brewery.

Micah Mackenzie is a professional photographer from Sumter, SC, although his heart is firmly based in Asheville where he has lived for most of the past 25 years.

As a child, Micah was intrigued and inspired by his mother’s photography of the natural environment. Later as a self-taught artist, Micah explored composition, color, layering, and textures through drawing, painting, and wood burning. With photography, he continues to creatively manipulate his chosen medium using a rich, multi-layered approach with a focus on portraiture and people. He is equally comfortable taking photos in the studio or out in the real world. He loves the ability to manipulate and fine-tune a studio environment, at the same time relishing the spontaneity and freshness of an impromptu street or on-location shoot.

Micah has always felt a strong, intuitive affinity with the visual world and his drive as an artist comes from a desire to connect and communicate with others creatively, sharing with them the unique lights inside his head. He looks beyond the surface of his subjects, seeing inside to what is intrinsically beautiful and empowering – this is what shines out in his photos.

Check-out his work in our taproom May thru the beginning of August!
Note:  The pieces for the exhibition will not be displayed until a few days prior to the opening reception (5/31).  Until this time Micah has filled the walls with some of examples of his photography…
